What better way to start our New England vacation than visiting Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower? Dennis and I had seen the plantation before, MANY years ago, and it was cool to see again. There's a re-created 17th century English village, Wampanoag homesite, and grist mill. It's an outdoor living history site -- you can walk among the homes and gardens and see and hear actors in period costumes. You can ask them questions and they will respond - with British accents of course.

On to Plymouth Rock, they keep what's left of it in this stately looking 'tomb':
We learned that it used to be waaay bigger. People used to be encouraged to chip off a piece to keep as a souvenir. What's left is pretty small and you can't even touch it.
Next stop, the Mayflower II, not the real deal, but painstakingly re-created to scale and actually sailed across the Atlantic from England.
