Elgin Public Work Open House

Here are some pix from last Saturday's Public Works Open House. We went two years ago but somehow missed it last year. The boys had an extra-special day since some of Jack's school friends were there too.

Jason took working the sand pit quite seriously.

I think next year Jack will be too big to do this anymore. :-(

The boys waited in a long, long line to get a ride on a street sweeper, and then I couldn't get through the throng of people in time to get a shot before the door was closed (hence all the reflections).

The coolest thing was being able to climb a tree and rappel down. No fear, no hesitation, Jack got geared up and followed directions like a champ. He made it all the way to the top limb of the tree, tapped the limb, then let himself down. Easy peasy.

Jack did it, so of course Jase figured he could, too. He didn't quite understand the directions and had to be helped up to the top, but he did go up pretty high.

As I said, he didn't listen to the directions, so he couldn't get himself down either. Fortunately one of the workers was on the next tree adjusting something and helped Jason down.

Jack took a second turn and again made it to the top. What a great confidence booster (as if he needs one!)

Jason cherishes and closely guards a rare cup of pop.
