I brought the kids with me on Thursday for the national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Metra invited us to share the morning with them, which was so awesome! Of course, we took the train into the city.
We joined about 100 kids at Metra. Here, the kids were welcomed by the executive director and listened to a presentation by Operation Lifesaver. They also had a demonstration by the Homeland Security explosives-sniffing dogs.
Then, it was off to the training simulators where the boys got to play engineer on several different types of trains:
Then we boarded a special excursion train which took us out to the rail yard at Western, where we went off the mainline and saw some "behind the scenes" stuff like extra parts storage and we rode the train through the train washer while we had lunch.

Metra gave the kids backpacks and baseball caps. Then we headed over to the RTA, where the kids kept busy while I had a conference call, and before I knew it, the day was over! So glad Jack came this year!
