We celebrated the Fourth of July by going to Elgin's parade on Saturday the 3rd. We actually found some nice shade and stood right at the end of the parade route. Gathering candy was feast or famine -- most of the floats had already thrown out all their candy by the time they reached us, but whoever had any left bestowed their remainders to the boys. Like we really needed more candy.
You might have noticed that Jason is wearing the shirt Jack wore last year and it fits him perfectly. That boy's growth is kind of scary.
On the actual 4th, I took the boys to the Fox River Trolley Museum. I'm not sure why we've never been there before, since it's within a few miles of the house, but we finally got around to it.
We took a very old trolley on a 25-minute ride, which was just about enough for me, but the boys would have stayed on all day if allowed. The trolley goes on a track parallel to the Fox River. We had a brief stop at a picnic area then headed back to the starting point, where the boys checked out an old caboose and CTA "L" car. The trolley engineer let the boys take a turn ringing the bell:
Later, we went to the Huntley firework show and got a great vantage point about a hundred yards from the blastoff area. Wow, it was loud...both boys stayed in the car with the windows shut but got to enjoy the awesome view, while Dennis & I watched from outside with firework debris raining down on us. Okay, so we were a little too close but it was very exciting.
