Halloween 2008

We were a little worried about Jack wearing a costume...last year he wouldn't put one on, even though it was Thomas the Tank Engine. I thought we could use that costume again, but he again wouldn't even try it on. Anyway, when I held it up against him it was obviously too short. So we went out to find a costume, yesterday of all days, and not surprisingly, there wasn't much left. Jack didn't want anything in the store, even though we told him he wouldn't get any candy unless he wore a costume. After hemming and hawing over whether he should be Anakin Skywalker (guess whose idea that was) or a race car driver, we decided on Obi-Wan Kenobi and were about to leave the store when I spied, over in the sporting goods area, a real NFL Bears set complete with jersey, pants, and helmet -- on clearance for $10! Touchdown!! Jack loved it, and although he wore his favorite jersey instead of the new one, he was really excited about the "costume." He even let me smudge some mascara under his eyes (the pros probably use something else, but it looked authentic to me).

Jason wore Jack's pirate costume from a couple years ago. We took the boys to Toys 'R Us because they have a parade every hour where they march all the kids in costume around the store and there are several stops they make along the way to pick up stickers, temporary tattoos, candy, etc. Then we went trick-or-treating around our block. Jack was like an old pro, ringing doorbells and saying "trick or treat" and, of course, "thank you." Jason, always the little trooper, stayed in the stroller the whole time without complaint. He was just happy to watch Jack go up to each door. Check out our little pirate, the only one to use a carseat:
