Pardon my pride, but I just had to write this down. It's been a fantastic week, starting with Jason's amazing EYSO performance on Sunday. These are audio-only recordings:
Selections from Les Miserables (Schonberg)
Suite from Firebird (Stravinsky)
We had another amazing day as Jack ran in the Upstate 8 Conference at Glenbard South High School. First, he ran in the 800 meter (half mile) for which he was seeded 6th, high enough to run in the second heat with the fastest runners. Runners had to make five laps around the track, and he was in dead last... I was thinking ok, hang in there, get in a good time... but Jack had other plans. He moved up in the next couple laps. Coming into the final lap, Jack passed three runners on the curve -- WHICH NO ONE DOES because that means you are essentially running a longer distance -- then in the straightaway, threw a little shoulder into a competitor to gain an edge (WHAT?! Reminded me of his soccer days!!). Running as hard as he could, Jack slayed the final curve and straightaway to finish three-tenths of a second behind the first place finisher!!! W.O.W.!!!! Personal record of 2:09.23 and he earned a swank medal:
For his second race, Jack ran the anchor (last) position of 4 person mile relay, my personal favorite as it was the same race and position I ran in high school. The 4x4 is the final race of every meet which means that EVERYONE is watching and cheering and really getting into the race, which is an all-out sprint. Jack's team ran in the last heat, as they were seeded third and would be among the fastest teams. The foursome before the race:
I'd love to report a massive win, but the middle two runners were maybe a little tired from prior races. Jack got the baton and went to work, ending up in 3rd place with a 57 second quarter mile! Whoop!! Solid day!! Bring on the outdoor season!!
