I played hooky again. The boys had the day off school due to parent-teacher conferences, so I met up with Jack's teacher in the morning, took him to get his molars sealed at the dentist, then we headed to Marmion Abbey Farms in Aurora for a perfectly fantastic day at the pumpkin patch. Pumpkin patches aren't just pumpkin patches. There's all kinds of stuff to see and do. We've been to a handful of places around the area over the years, and each one has something that measures the height of the kids, right at the front. I guess it's mandatory to see how they've grown in the year. If Jack hadn't gotten his hair cut a couple weeks ago, he would be over five feet tall.
Jason's right around four and a half feet tall.
The first order of business was climbing up a mountain of tractor tires and trying out a zip line that was just too short for my tall boys, so they headed to a rope maze. Then, Dennis spotted this cool trampoline thing which was really a huge bouncy pillow. We had never seen anything like it -- it was a LOT of fun and we kept going back to it throughout the day.
There was a track for pedal cars, which was Jack's favorite attraction. We must be getting old, these things were a lot of work to maneuver!
Everything the kids did, I did too. Gotta keep up!
Horsey rides...yep, I did this too and hopefully there are no pictures of it. This was the weirdest thing, it's like a somewhat solid, inflated bottom part that you have to bounce up and down while moving around the track. Exhausting.
Daddy-O got in on the pedal car action too.
Crazy man here really liked the hill slide and decided he didn't need the burlap sack. He also decided to take a running start and jump down onto the slide. This kid is nuts... the slide was really steep to begin with, so taking a running start and jumping off the hilltop onto it caused more than a few gray hairs to sprout. Oy vey.
We had absolutely perfect weather, low 70's and clear and sunny. Since most kids were probably in school or their parents didn't have the gumption to take the day off, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Which was kind of weird once we went into the corn maze, because once we really got into it we were totally on our own and it was disorienting and strange. There was a challenge to find seven stations within the maze where we would use a hole punch on our map, but we only found four before the kids wanted to go on all the rides again. At the end of the day, we went on a hay ride around the pumpkin patch and I captured some cute smiles. For someone who spent a lot of time in the car on the way complaining about how he didn't like pumpkin patches, Jason ended up having a REALLY good time and wants to go back next year.
Oh yeah, look at that smile! We should all play hooky more often!!
