We finally got to the pumpkin farm on Sunday; we had talked about going since September but decided to wait until Lynn was in town. We also went with Kevin, Pam, Abby, and Ryleigh. The weather was cool but it was sunny and dry, so not too bad, but it was no match for last year's visit to Kuiper's Farm, where we went in t-shirts and sandals.
At Jason's 2-year physical he was measured at 37" tall, putting him off the chart for height. According to several cutouts placed around Goebbert's Farm, however, he measured in at 34 and 35 inches. None of the cutouts were placed on paved ground, though, so maybe the compressed grass was a factor? I have to wonder.
Goebbert's was way better than I remember it from three years ago. There was just a lot more stuff to do: several mazes, a haunted house, a tent with exotic animals (here Jack is feeding a not-so-exotic calf), a giraffe stand, a toddler playground, the haywagon ride to the pumpkin field, lots of structures to climb on, and more.
No doubt, Jack just loved spending the time with his cousins Abby and Ryleigh over the weekend. We had also had them over for pizza on Friday night and to bake Halloween cookies and dinner on Saturday. They are all growing up way too fast and I am very glad we had such a great weekend with them.
My two little pumpkins...after running from attraction to attraction, they kind of pooped out and demanded a cart ride with the lone pumpkin that Jack picked from the pumpkin field. I think he took the first pumpkin he saw. It was all green and quite small (thankfully). Well, I did tell him that whichever pumpkin he picked, he would have to carry... so wise choice, my little one. Jason ended up with a beautiful, rich orange pumpkin after dropping and breaking his original choice.
It turned out that the color of the pumpkin didn't matter; once we were home and brought out the paints, the pumpkins were hopelessly covered in several coats. Jason went for a more three-dimensional look by seriously globbing the paint on.
Jack used a lot of water with his paint to create a more uniform look. He likes to use every color, and the end result is fairly grayish. I have a feeling we will be painting them again (and again) over the next couple weeks.
